PRIMARY ACHIEVEMENTS:
Prepared position papers, news articles and press releases related to pending judicial decisions and proposed legislation for a consortium of six national civil rights organizations as a staff member for Americans For A Fair Chance in Washington, D.C. (2001-2003).
Wrote article, “Looking Beyond Statistics”, Scripps Howard News Service, 12/5/02, supporting University of Michigan Law School admissions policy for minority students.
As Project Director, Pacific American Leadership Program, designed leadership program for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander emerging leaders. First leadership fellows completed training at Drucker Institute in Pomona, CA, in 1998, and most recent fellows finished training in Hawaii in October 2005.
As project team member, published report (“Community Health Care Systems: A Report on What Works”, Pacific American Foundation, December 1997) on strategies to serve Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in underserved communities in Hawaii and on the mainland. Report provided to U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and governors in Hawaii, California, Washington and Virginia.
Prepared, reviewed and successfully obtained grants for various programs to improve the economic, education, health and housing status for Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders for Pacific American Foundation (1996 – 2002).
Analyzed proposed legislation, attended committee hearings, and responded to constituent concerns as Congressional Intern (1997).
